About Sue:
Sue was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in the community of Crystal Lake, Illinois located approximately 45 miles northwest of Chicago where she graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School in 1961. Upon graduation, her choices were: marriage, college or secretarial school. She was not ready to marry and college wasn’t of high interest so she opted for the top secretarial school in Chicago and graduated from that school in 1962. She said “My dad always told me you have to have something to fall back on” so a diploma from the best secretarial school in Chicago seemed to fill that bill and has served her well. She says she still takes and uses shorthand to this day! With that diploma in hand, she moved to Palm Springs, California where she spent the next 27 years with a majority of those 27 years in the general construction industry and a short time in the legal field. In 1989 Sue left California and moved to Pinedale, Wyoming where she married her husband Ed. She and Ed moved to Riverton in 1990 and they continue to reside in Riverton. She kept her California Contractor’s License on the inactive status until 1999 when she retired that license for good. Over the years, in both Palm Springs and Riverton, there have been numerous and varied general interest classes at College of the Desert and Central Wyoming College.
Sue always had a love of horses but never had any desire to raise or train horses or compete until she was bitten by the cutting horse bug in 1980. Bitten by that bug, she owned, showed and judged cutting horses and cutting horse shows for many years all over the country and perhaps judged the majority of high school rodeo cutting horse shows throughout the state of Wyoming. She retired from that when she and her husband Ed opened two retail stores in 1993 and 1995, one in Riverton and one in Lander. They maintained those stores until 2006. Since retiring those stores in 2006, she travels at least twice yearly to Palm Springs to help her son in his catering business.
Sue has one son, Scott, who was born and raised in Palm Springs and who is a Certified Executive Chef and the “caterer of choice” in The Desert. Ed has two daughters, Kim and Suzi, both living in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Sue and Ed have four grandchildren and one great grandson.
She laughs when she says there was very little time for community endeavors while in Palm Springs so upon moving to Wyoming and Riverton she made up for that lost time. She has been a board member of the Riverton Rendezvous committee for 19 years, a past president of the Riverton Country Club Ladies Golf Association, member of the Riverton Downtowners and the Riverton Main Street Reconstruction project, a Rotarian and secretary of Rotary, a Kiwanian, board member of the Lander Chamber of Commerce, board member and secretary of the Wind River Visitor’s Council for six years, secretary of the Wyoming Cutting Horse Association, NCHA cutting horse judge, member of the Bronze Committee of Lander, and secretary of Mountain View Water District. In addition, she plans to do some travel writing and photography and, lastly, she holds a private pilot’s license with a multi and single engine land rating. She and Ed are outdoor enthusiasts being hunters and fishermen and both are past trap and skeet shooters. They also enjoy RV and ATV activities.
Sue was appointed to State Parks and Cultural Resources Commission in 2015 by Governor Matt Mead.
