About Andy:

I am a 5th generation Wyomingite whose family homesteaded in Crook county in the 1890's and ranched there for over 100 years.

I happened to be born in Torrington, moved to and grew up in Cheyenne, and am currently raising my family in Laramie with my wife Erin.  My three teens include Catcher, who is starting school at UW in the fall, Ellu, a junior at Laramie High School and Ellery, an 8th grader at Laramie Middle School.  I am a long time teacher, coach, and outdoor enthusiast.

After graduating from Central High School in Cheyenne in 1994, attending UW, and becoming a teacher, I started my career as an English as a Second Language instructor in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.  I speak Spanish and was able to help immigrant families make the transition to life in the U.S.  After one year, I moved back to Laramie and have been teaching a little bit of everything to middle schoolers ever since.  As a math and science teacher, I have taught aeronautical engineering to students sending cameras into low orbit with weather balloons, helped students produce a radio story on energy issues faced by Wyoming heard by 3 million listeners, and hopefully helped students appreciate the glories of algebra.

More recently, I have developed a passion for civic education after leading classes through a curriculum known as Project Citizen.  My social studies classes have taken on local and regional problems spanning from waste reduction in our schools and local restaurants to siting energy projects while protecting migration pathways.  I have since become the state coordinator for Project Citizen and look forward to promoting experiential civic learning with schools across the state.  I am also the head soccer coach at Laramie High School where I have been coaching for nearly twenty years.  I have been fortunate to be part of a winning culture that provides great opportunities for high school boys playing a sport we all love.

Enjoying the outdoors, especially our state parks, is a huge part of what makes life in Wyoming great.  I am a daily mountain bike rider who tries to promote trail building, access, and responsible usage all while hopefully not wrecking at high speeds.  I love our state and our public lands, and I look forward to working with Wyoming citizens to ensure our parks and cultural resources are protected and promoted as the jewels they are!
