Harmful Cyanobacteria Bloom, Recreational Use Advisory issued for west causeway area of Curt Gowdy State Park

A routine screening alerted Wyoming State Parks to a blue-green algae bloom in the body of water known as the Causeway, located on the west side of Granite reservoir. 

Harmful cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, can form harmful blooms in slow-moving water during the later summer when water temperatures are warmer. These blooms are considered harmful because they produce toxins and other irritants that can pose a risk to humans, pets, livestock and wildlife. The WDH issues recreational use advisories when cyanobacterial cell densities or cyanotoxin concentrations pose a risk to people and pets engaging in water related recreational activities.

The recreational use advisory is currently only for the body of water known as the Causeway. This is the small body of water to the west of the road where Crow Creek enters Granite Reservoir. Crystal reservoir, Granite reservoir, Upper North Crow reservoir and all campgrounds and park facilities remain unaffected and are open for business.  Visitors are advised to err on the side of caution and use their best judgement when recreating in this area.
